About Us
Located near Ingatestone, Essex, we are ideally situated to provide a range of learning opportunities. Set in 45 acres of traditional pasture, woodlands and ponds, our herd of horses are kept as naturally as possible. Our friendly dogs, guinea pigs, chickens, ducks and a cat all contribute to our ability to make our learning opportunities both worthwhile and meaningful. Our activities are learner-led and the range is limitless.
We are an accredited EAQ Centre and as such comply with their high standards with regards to animal care, land management and health and safety. They conduct an Annual inspection of our Centre and observe our learner interactions.
Meet the Team
Tamara Nichols
Owner and Lead Facilitator
Tamara qualified as a primary school teacher over 30 years ago, and has also worked for 13 years as an Essex Senco. She has a wealth of experience of supporting young people and families in a variety of educational settings. Tamara has been fortunate to have owned horses for most of her life. She has always been fascinated by the way that horses are able to relate to people and when the opportunity came up for her to combine her two passions, then she jumped at it!
She has a Level 4 Certificate in Facilitating Equine Assisted Learning (accredited by OCN London). She also has relevant training in safeguarding, first aid, food hygiene, and health and safety.
Sonia Powell
Equine Facilitator
Sonia has loved horses since she was small and owns two of her own. She started working with children over 10 years ago, organising after school and holiday activities. Prior to starting with EAQ, she spent 6 months working with students at Chelmsford College and Castledon School and Sixth Form. This was 1:1 and in small groups, both on and off school property. The students had a variety of different needs including self-esteem, anxiety, autism spectrum conditions, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, PDA, ADHD and some students were non-verbal. She has almost completed her Level 4 Certificate in Facilitating Equine Assisted Learning.
Jane Jestico
Education Officer
Jane has been a primary school teacher and a senior educational leader for eighteen years. She has worked in a wide range of educational settings with diverse groups of children. Her decision to become a teacher was influenced by being a parent of a child with special educational needs and she quickly recognised the necessity to be able to offer bespoke education. She is driven to find ways to enable all pupils to take responsibility for their own learning, understand how they can make progress and be proud of their achievements.
